Letter to my Mom

Dear Mom,

It’s International Women’s Day, and I want to let you know that you are my superhero. Iya Chidinma (as I fondly call you), the things I have to thank you for are a lot, but I’ll write a few.

Thank you for giving birth to me. The struggles and circumstances surrounding my birth were enough to make you have postpartum depression, but somehow you pulled through. You went through 4 days of labor pain to bring me to life, and not once did you give up. You loved me despite the pain I put you through. Your strength is amazing.

Thank you for giving up your career for me. I shed tears as I write this part. You loved me enough to give up your journalism career for me. You couldn’t stand leaving me in the hands of someone else to take care of. You wanted to make sure I was okay every time of the day. You wanted to make sure I had the best type of love and care a mother could offer. That’s so selfless and amazing. I don’t think I have it in me to make such a sacrifice for another person. You are amazing.

Thank you for filling in the gap when I was an only child. You never made me feel I was alone. You played “Doctor” with me. You played “chef” and “restaurant customer” with me. You let me play with your hair. You made doll clothes and dollhouses with me. You acted dramas with me. You were…
